Did you like the course?

πŸ“’ Spoiler alert: I have an important update at the end of this email...

Hey Reader,

I'll be honest; I'm not sure about the freelancing course I put out last week.

It was an experiment.

I wanted to see:

  • What the unsubscribe rate would be
  • How it would feel to put it out there
  • Whether anyone would book a call

It's a mixed bag on all these things, and I felt a little dirty putting the course out there.

Why?

I copied the style from another creator and it didn't really vibe with me. It felt a little brash. A little salesy.

Worse still?

Said creator saw my emails.

As you can see, he didn't call me out or anything like that, but I wanted to shrivel up inside.

I felt terrible.

I could have used a different structure.

Okay, okay - it's not all bad

I have to thank Tim and Arnolds - two of the most active members of The Committed Writers Club.

We were on a call last week, and Arnolds congratulated me on the course.

He said he found it helpful.

And when I told them both that I felt uncomfortable offering coaching calls, Tim suggested I do something that felt more natural to me:

Ask for feedback.

So that's what I'm going to do here.

If you've been through my free 5-day freelancing course, I'd love to get your feedback. Was it helpful? Was it annoying? Is there anything you didn't like?

I'm open to it all.

And if you're looking for help on how to get started as a freelancer with internet skills (copywriting, video editing, SEO, etc.), either book a call with me or drop me an email.

We might be able to work together.

With all this being said, here comes the update I teased in the spoiler...

First, here's the background:

  • My biological dad passed away a few months ago. I haven't processed it properly.
  • Me and my ex broke up earlier this year. I haven't properly processed that, either.
  • My mum's partner of 20 years was recently diagnosed with lung cancer and I've been trying to distract myself with work. This has led me to make some questionable decisions - this whole course being one.

And I feel like I'm in a creative funk.

πŸ“’ For all these reasons, I'm going to take some time away from being online.

I need to be there for my family, and I need to lean on my friends.

For those who are in The Committed Writers Club, don't worry; I'm still going to show up for calls and support you guys.

But I'm going to put the brakes on all my other creative projects right now - potentially these emails too (TBD).

I know some of you have been on this list since the very first email I put out nearly 3.5 years ago.

Thank you if you're one of these people.

And even if you've joined the party a little late, just know that I appreciate each and every one of you.

Your kind messages lift me up. They give me a reason to keep going.

But again, I need to take some time away, and I don't know if I'll keep sending these emails while I am.

I need a little time.

However, my inbox will be open if you too are struggling or you want somewhere to vent.

Honestly?

I could do with the distractions right now.

So until next time, my friend - whenever that may be - see you soon and please don't be a stranger.

"To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often."

Scott

Read time: 1 minute Hey Reader, Now I know what you're thinking: You're a writer, Scott! Why are you recording YouTube videos?! I hear you! The truth is, the video I've just uploaded might be a one-off. I had grand plans to do a whole series around introverts. But after finishing this video, I've realised how much time YouTube takes. Writing the script, recording the video, editing, making a thumbnail, writing the description... It's a lot! And although I could outsource the process, I'm not...
